About

Founded in 1999, IDW started as an award-winning publisher of comic books, graphic novels, and trade paperbacks, based in San Diego, California, and has grown into a fully integrated media company that now includes IDW Games, IDW Entertainment, Top Shelf Productions, and the San Diego Comic Art Gallery. Two of the original founders, Ted Adams (CEO & Publisher) and Robbie Robbins (EVP), still actively manage the company, along with IDW’s executive team, which consists of Greg Goldstein (President & COO), Chris Ryall (CCO & Editor-in-Chief), and Matt Ruzicka (CFO), and David Ozer (President, IDW Entertainment).

IDW Games publishes both creator-owned and licensed tabletop games. The division was launched in 2014 and has quickly found success with one of the top-selling card games of the year, the Geekie Award winning and Spiel Des Jahres nominated, Machi Koro. IDW Games offers a mix of popular licensed games, such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Back To the Future, and CHEW, as well as strategic hobby games, such as Fire & Axe and Awesome Kingdom.

IDW Publishing is regularly recognized as one of the top four comic book publishers in the US. Over 80 IDW titles have appeared on The New York Times Best Sellers list. In FY2015 alone, IDW published over 500 unique comic book titles and over 250 graphic novels.

Renowned for its diverse catalog of licensed and independent titles, IDW publishes some of the most successful and popular titles in the industry, including: Hasbro’s TRANSFORMERS, G.I. JOE, MY LITTLE PONY, and JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS; Paramount/CBS’s Star Trek; Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles; Toho’s Godzilla; Twentieth Century Fox’s The X-Files; Sony’s Ghostbusters, Temple Street Productions’ Orphan Black; multiple monthly Disney titles; and many more.

Creator-driven titles include Steve Niles and Ben Templesmith’s 30 Days of Night, Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s Locke & Key, and Beau Smith’s Wynonna Earp. Kevin Eastman and Gabriel Rodriguez are both exclusive to IDW Publishing and recent titles from them include Fistful of Blood, Little Nemo in Slumberland, and Onyx.

IDW Publishing is also home to acclaimed imprints such as; The Library of American Comics, which publishes classic comic reprints; Yoe! Books, a partnership with Yoe! Studio; and the multiple award-winning IDW Artist’s Edition line which includes Frank Miller’s Daredevil, Jack Kirby’s Kamandi, Mike Mignola’s Hellboy, Dave GibbonsWatchmen, Charles Schulz’s Peanuts, and many more. In 2015, IDW acquired Top Shelf Productions, an award-winning publisher of graphic novels. Top Shelf is known for publishing works of literary sophistication, including the #1 New York Times and Washington Post Best Seller March by Congressman John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, and Nate Powell and the authorized graphic-novel adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson’s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

In 2014, IDW created and trademarked a new product, the Micro Comic Fun Pack, a collectible format that contains miniature comics, stickers, and posters. The new line immediately established success in the mass market with titles such as MY LITTLE PONY, Skylanders, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and most recently, Star Wars.

IDW Entertainment began in 2013 to fund, develop, and produce television series based on IDW books. IDW projects in development include Winterworld, V-Wars, and Dirk Gently, which has been sold to BBC America with writer/executive producer Max Landis (Chronicle). Wynonna Earp is in production for SyFy and is premiering Spring 2016, and Brooklyn Animal Control is in production for USA with Executive Producers David Goyer (DaVinci’s Demons, Dark Knight Rises) and Circle of Confusion (Walking Dead).

IDW Entertainment also has theatrical film projects in development, including Chris Ryall and Ashley Wood’s Zombies vs. Robots with Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes and Sony.

In 2015, IDW opened the San Diego Comic Art Gallery, a unique, new, and dynamic space designed to educate and engage the local San Diego community and the region of Southern California with sequential comic book and graphic arts. The SDCAG is located in the NTC in Liberty Station and contains a gallery of original art from comics and animation, a retail space, a working artists’ studio, and a research library.
